Ban on smoking in cars from this week

Blackburn with Darwen Council along with a local ex-smoker are highlighting the fact that secondhand smoke is extremely dangerous ahead of the ban on smoking in cars with under 18s present, which becomes law in England and Wales on 1 October.

Busy week for the Mayor

This week the Mayor will be out and about once again fulfilling his official engagements.

The Mayor, who began his mayoral year in May, will next week attend the Cinnamon Faith Action Audit at King George’s Hall, also to attend the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, along side the Mayoress and the Deputy Mayor to attend the Citizenship Ceremony in the Council Chamber on Tuesday, both Mayor and Deputy Mayor to attend Council Briefing in the Mayor’s Parlour on Wednesday, will attend the Opening of the extended KQF Store and attend the council forum on Thursday and will also attend Regimental Sunday at Warrington along side the Mayoress on Sunday.

Staff spruce up gardens

Green fingered staff from McDonald’s restaurant in Whitebirk helped spruce up an overgrown garden.

Six staff joined Councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, and council officers to do some work on the enclosed garden on Higson Street.

This week the Mayor will be out and about once again fulfilling his official engagements.

The Mayor, who began his mayoral year in May, will next week attend his civic tour of the borough, along with the Mayoress on Monday, to receive a visit from a group of people visiting from Pakistan and also to  attend the ‘Celebration of Achievements of the Children We Look After’ in the Windsor Suite, King George’s Hall, along with the Mayoress on Tuesday to attend 3AAA Academy grand opening at St John’s Court, Ainsworth Street, along side the Mayoress on Friday, and finally to visit young people from ‘The Challenge’ at QEGS along with the Mayoress on Sunday.

The Blackburn Heritage Festival returns this weekend with a packed schedule of history and fun.

Thousands of people are expected to enjoy the festival, including the iconic Victorian Fairground rides, vintage buses and a big wheel on September 12 and 13.
