Have Your Say – Leisure Review

Published Friday 2 October 2015 at 15:19

People are urged to make their voice during the public consultation which is taking place as part of the Blackburn with Darwen Council’s review of its leisure and swimming pool services.

The consultation will gather views to help inform future decisions, including investigating any viable proposals to take over the running of facilities for the benefit of the community in two older centres Daisyfield Pools and Shadsworth Leisure Centre.

People can get involved by completing  the online consultation or attend public meeting planned for later in the month. The Council will also be speaking direct to community groups, schools and other interested parties about the review and possible opportunities between now and October 31.

Further details and the survey can be found on the Council’s website.

Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Young People, said:

We have excellent leisure facilities in Blackburn and Darwen and are making the best of a bad situation, protecting what we can across all services. Swimming pools are popular and important for both leisure and health. That’s why it’s so important that we get as much information and feedback on the review as possible from people and organisations and exhaust all options before we made final decision later in the year.

We know are options are limited with more funding cuts on the way though that won’t stop us from taking everything that is suggested seriously. I’d urge people to come forward with proposals and ideas.”
