The local Macmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership has launched a new project – Macmillan Solutions – to provide trained volunteers to deliver practical, emotional and financial help to those affected by cancer allowing them to regain some control and get on with their lives.

‘Just Good Friends’ event brings older people together

There was dancing, good food and good company at an event held for older people

The ‘Just Good Friends’ event held in the Concert Hall in King Georges Hall saw almost 300 people entertained by live music, and also taking part in a free raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Health bosses welcome ban on smoking in cars

Blackburn with Darwen Health bosses have welcomed an historic Parliamentary vote which means that from October 1 2015, anyone lighting up in a car with a child under 18 present will be breaking the law and could be fined.

Panto season success in Blackburn with Darwen

A busy pantomime season across the borough saw attendances increase at both King Georges Hall and Darwen Library Theatre

The production of Snow White at King George’s Hall saw an increase in audiences of 10.6% on the 2013 production of Cinderella, and an increase of over 28% from 2012.

Bootstrap helping residents step by step

A local organisation has helped vulnerable adults within the borough gain employment and further training.

Based in Blackburn, Bootstraps Supported Employment Service offers practical and emotional support to clients with a disability or health condition, and helps them access further training, education, whilst also assisting them in gaining employment.
