The council is backing a national call for sentencing guidelines for fly-tipping to be urgently reviewed, after new figures show that court fines for the offence are often lower than the penalties councils can issue directly.

Failure to dispose of rubbish properly leads to prosecution

A woman has been ordered to pay a total of £365 for failing to dispose of rubbish properly Mrs Shugufta Patel, of Wensley Road, Blackburn was served a notice under section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which required the removal and disposal of the waste which was found close to the rear of a properly, in a legal manner.
