A further nine recent successful waste prosecutions were made by the environmental crime team at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Fines came to a total of £7233.00 for Blackburn with Darwen residents who failed to comply with waste disposal rules.

Rubbish was left to be removed by the council’s environmental team despite reminders for local residents.

Councillor Jim Smith, Executive Member for Environment, said:

It’s great to see that these residents are being fined for dumping their rubbish despite previous warnings. It’s important to us that residents are proud of their borough and where they live, so we will not accept rubbish being allowed to build up or be discarded and blight our communities. Once again the environmental team deserve the recognition for making sure our streets are clean, the environment is being looked after and these people are fined for failing to comply with the rules.

Last month the council’s environmental waste crime team oversaw 16 enforcement actions in Blackburn and Darwen with almost £10,000 in fines issued.

The Council is also committed to educating and informing residents on the correct ways to responsibly dispose of waste, the Environment Department employed a second Education Officer to assist with leading on this task to offer advice and support.

Please help us stop waste crimes by reporting them via the Council website.
