Tributes paid to volunteers who ‘made things happen’ at the National Festival of Making

Biffa Donates to Mayors Charities

A waste company has generously donated £1,000 to the borough’s Mayors charities.

The team at Biffa, which collects household recycling for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has worked nearly 47,840 hours without incurring lost time because of an accident.

Memorial Service 2016

The fourth Blackburn with Darwen Memorial Service will take place in the summer this year.

The ‘Let Us Remember’ annual event usually happens in March but with bad weather forecasted, it has been postponed until June 5 in the hope of brighter skies.

Hundreds remember the fallen

Hundreds of well-wishers turned out to Remembrance Sunday services across the borough at the weekend.

And it was a very special occasion for former prisoner of war, 95-year-old Alf Davey, who was made VIP guest for the United Service of Remembrance held at Blackburn Cathedral and the wreath-laying at the Corporation Park Gardens.

Out and About with the Mayor

This week the Mayor will be out and about once again fulfilling his official engagements.

The Mayor, who began his mayoral year in May, will next week attend a celebration of Pakistan Independence Day at Nelson Town Hall on Monday, attend the Good Neighbour Awards in the Windsor Suite, King George’s Hall on Tuesday along with the Mayoress, will be visited by the NCS Group in the Mayor’s Parlour on Wednesday, and finally attend the Darwen 1940’s Day Celebration Day, Darwen Town Centre along with the Mayoress on Saturday.

VE Day commemorated across the borough

Several events took place across the borough as Blackburn and Darwen commemorated the 70th anniversary of VE Day, the date when victory in Europe was declared following years of conflict during the Second World War

Taking place on Friday, 8 May Outside both Blackburn and Darwen Town Halls, ceremonies took place which included the observing of a two minutes silence at 3pm, which the Blackburn Town Hall ceremony being led by Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Alan Cottam.
