Tributes paid to volunteers who ‘made things happen’ at the National Festival of Making

The Mayor and Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council both joined crowds at Blackburn Library on 19 July in a celebration of almost 100 volunteers who helped ensure the recent success of Blackburn’s fifth National Festival of Making, and its first as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

Ballroom memories music to the ears

Synth pop pioneer Martyn Ware is appealing for people to share their memories and mementoes of the popular Blackburn nightclub Tony’s Empress Ballroom

Martyn, a founding member of both The Human League and Heaven 17, will use them to create a sound installation at the free National Festival of Making which takes place in the town centre on May 12 and 13.
