The Poppy Appeal has officially been launched in Blackburn town centre today.
The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, together with Council Leader Coun Phil Riley and Chief Executive Denise Park, accompanied members of the Blackburn branch of the Royal British Legion to open this year’s official Poppy Shop
Located in The Mall Blackburn, close to Sports Direct on King William Street, the Poppy Shop sells a variety of official Royal British Legion merchandise, as well as the instantly recognisable paper poppies.

Plans to transform two playgrounds at Blackburn’s flagship Witton Park have been revealed.
The £350,000 proposals include a large activity play area on the current site of The Wits and a full re-vamp of the younger children’s playground.

Gary Shaw, who works in the Open Spaces Team at Blackburn with Darwen Council, along with his partially sighted friend Paul, who also used to work for the Council, have completed over 40 triathlons together and are set to run the Blackburn 10k this December at Ewood Park.
