Organisations are being sought who can take over the management of Bangor Street Community Centre.
Blackburn with Darwen Council is looking for a qualified and experienced group who can demonstrate that they are capable of effectively managing and developing the facility for the benefit of the community.
The Council will retain ownership of the building but a decision has been taken to offer the transfer management of the community centre.
Asset transfer is aimed at giving local people and community greater control in the future of their area and their facilities.
As Councils are increasing facing further funding cuts, local groups are needed to play a greater role in their neighbourhoods.
Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure said: “If people have a key role in the running or managing of community buildings, it can give them a real sense of ownership and belonging. It can also help to bring the community together, people from different backgrounds sharing and enjoying the facility. It can also raise local aspirations and pride in their neighbourhood.
“The Council is committed to working constructively with community groups, local people and organisations to ensure that community asset transfer in Blackburn with Darwen Borough is successful.”
If you are interested in the opportunity of the asset transfer Bangor St Community Centre, groups need to needs to fill in an Expression of Interest Form. These will be considered as Stage 1 of the Asset Transfer and will be followed by Stage 2, a formal Invitation to Tender. The deadline for the Expression of Interest Stage is Tuesday 16th June, 5pm.
