Published Friday 22 January 2021 at 12:37

A free 2021 calendar featuring beautiful images of the borough, taken by our towns’ talented residents has been created.

The calendar, which aims to highlight both popular and hidden gems in the borough, has been created by Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Stride and Ride team.

You can claim your free calendar here:

Many of us during the coronavirus pandemic have found ourselves walking and cycling in our local area more often than before for our daily exercise allowance. See here for guidance Coronavirus (COVID-19): advice on accessing green spaces safely – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

This is good for increasing our wellbeing and active travel is something Blackburn and Darwen Council is excited about increasing across our communities.

Smartphones across the borough have been filling up with pictures of our beautiful local landscape as people try new walking and cycling routes. While we’re all still restricted on where we can go to help stop the spread of coronavirus, for inspiration to make the most of your neighbourhood try our free Explore BwD and East Lancs Cycling apps. Please remember to stay in your own local town or village when doing so for the time-being.

Resident and calendar contributor John Rutherford loves the family benefits of being out in the fresh air. He said: I’ve been a keen cyclist for around six years now, both mountain bike and road bike, we have great surroundings for it. My wife, two older children, and baby, all thoroughly enjoy to get out together at the weekends. The baby loves the bike mounted baby seat, and we love nothing better than setting off with a picnic and not quite sure where we’ll end up. It’s great exercise as well as quality family time.”
