Give the gift of the great outdoors

The festive season traditionally sees an exchange of gifts, and this year, following social distancing restrictions of course, will be no different.

We’re very fortunate to live in such a beautiful county, with gorgeous feats of nature almost on our doorstep. And with this in mind this year, let’s give our loved ones the gift of the great outdoors, along with that other priceless commodity – time.

Wellbeing is proven to increase when you share experiences with loved ones and when you spend time outdoors. A walk through Whitehall Country Park with your family could be the best two for one offer you’ll ever get! A feast for the eyes and a warming of the heart in one outing.

At this time of year families are used to gathering together, so get into the spirit of things by wrapping up warm, maybe taking along some winter refreshments, and making the most of the great outdoors.

Local family bike ride

Local mum in BwD, Sam Riddehough, said: “I’m looking forward to getting out on a bike ride with my family – my dad has always been keen on us all being more active, maybe a Christmas Day ride on Weavers Wheel will become our new family tradition.”

Blackburn’s Head of Highways, Dwayne Lowe, said: “I know it will be difficult for us all not being together with friends and family like we might usually be at this time of year. This is a chance, though, to start new traditions around being active and outdoors together, that people of all ages can enjoy. This could help our communities to move more, improving the overall health of residents.”
