Resurfacing work on Darwen Street is due to start on Monday, March 31.
The road will be closed each night during the works between 7pm and 2am.
There will however be no works undertaken on Tuesday, April 1 due to a concert at the Cathedral.
The street will re-open each day but will close again each evening until works are complete, which is likely to be one week.
As the works are being carried out overnight, there will be some disruption to bus services, but this will be minimal as they operate at a much reduced frequency in the evening.
A small number of residents who live in the area have been informed about the works and although the noise will be kept to a minimum, they have been advised to keep their windows closed to reduce any disturbance.
A signed diversion route will be in place, with St Peter Street being reversed to allow traffic to get back into Darwen Street to serve the Taxi base and adjoining businesses.
Councillor Jim Smith, Executive Member for Environment, Housing and Neighbourhoods, said “Darwen Street is one of the main through routes in the town centre and the repairs are necessary. The works will be carried out over night to keep disruption to a minimum.”
