Councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, reacting to the news that East Lancashire Football Development Association, received £200,000 in funding for grass roots football, said:
I am delighted the association working in partnership with us has been successful in their bid to improve facilities. Getting more people involved in sport and physical activity is a Council priority and we are pleased we can support groups such as the Association to bring in investment to achieve that aim. We’re in tough times as a Council but what we can do is support groups to get these big funding bids. I am looking really forward to seeing the improvements.”
Councillor Damain Talbot, Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Young People, said:
This is superb news. This funding is a major boost for football in this borough especially for the junior leagues.”
