The Council leader Councillor Kate Hollern and Councillor Jim Smith welcomed dozens of Your Call volunteers to a special event at the Council’s depot at Davy Field industrial estate last week (Friday December 12th 2014).
Organised to celebrate the valuable work these volunteers undertake every day to ensure our Borough looks clean and tidy, this event saw residents from across Blackburn with Darwen get the VIP treatment as they were welcomed with a drinks reception by the Executive Member for Environment Councillor Jim Smith.
Followed by a film made by students from Blackburn College outlining the various projects the Your Call scheme had undertaken in the past twelve months, the guests were then taken on a tour of the Davy Field site.
Councillor Smith said :
it was really important to me that I take an opportunity near Christmas to personally thank all those community champions and volunteers that make Blackburn with Darwen a great place to be.
“We had a great day and a good tour of the facilities at Davy Field however I will be organising a big celebration picnic next year so we can really celebrate all the achievements and the hard work the thousands of Your Call volunteers do every day.
Councillor Kate Hollern added:
We have to continue to have pride within our area and together the Council, the Your Call scheme and its army of volunteers are doing pretty amazing things.
“The Your Call scheme is about ensuring Blackburn with Darwen remains a fantastic place to live and work even if as Borough we are facing tough times.
