A flowering display to commemorate the centenary of World War One has been planted in Corporation Park.
The flowers spell out ‘Lest We Forget 1914 – 1918’ and feature a red remembrance poppy on a green background. It has been planted on the banking next to the existing war memorial in the park.
Blackburn with Darwen Council’s parks team plan to plant a new display every summer to mark World War One up to 2018, which will be the 100th anniversary of the end of the conflict.
Cllr Jim Smith, Executive Member for Environment, said:
“This is a wonderful way to commemorate the brave men and women who lost their lives in World War One. I hope anyone visiting Corporation Park this summer takes a few minutes to take a look at this beautiful display.”
