Hundreds of people are expected to turn out to an action-packed family fun day featuring free guided walks, rides and shows at Witton Park this week to launch six new walking routes.
The ‘Walk in the Park’ event on Sunday, 17th July launches the new walking and running signage at Witton Park whilst providing entertainment and taster sessions to the public between 11am-4pm.
Entertainment on the day includes live music, an animal roadshow by Wellybobs, a rodeo bull, crazy golf, a Punch and Judy show and a slide roller coaster.
There will also be a vintage bus to explore, a BMX pump track and traditional fairground games including Coconut Shy and Tin Can Alley.
In addition to the attractions, there will be three guided walks every half hour to provide visitors with an insight into the new walking routes.
There are three main routes to choose from, each with options to make it longer or shorter so that they are suitable for all age ranges and all fitness levels.
They range from a one mile flat route suitable for pushchairs and wheelchair users to a more challenging four and a half mile route, with each one having a distinctly different feel with attractions to spot along the way.
The event is being organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council after successfully receiving funding from the National Charity Partnership between Tesco, British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.
The National Charity partnership runs until 2018 and was formed to raise funds to inspire millions of people to eat better, get active and reduce their risk of developing diabetes.
Councillor Damian Talbot, executive member for Culture, Leisure and Young People at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:
“I hope as many people as possible will come and enjoy this fantastic event taking the opportunity to try out the new walking routes.
“Witton Park is a jewel in the borough’s crown and these new walks will help visitors to make the most of it, allowing them to exercise with their families and enjoy some fresh air and beautiful scenery.
“We know that taking regular exercise and having access to green spaces are both essential for people’s health and wellbeing so these walking routes give them the best of both worlds.”
