It may be summer but plans for a sparkling Christmas in Blackburn are already underway with an authentic German-style market this Christmas.
Blackburn Christmas Market will run from Thursday, November 29th to Sunday, December 23rd in Blackburn’s beautiful Cathedral Square.
Times will be 10.30am to 6pm, seven days per week with late nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This will coincide with the launch of Blackburn town centre’s late night Christmas shopping on Thursday, November 29th and will kick-off the town’s festive programme.
Blackburn Christmas Lights will be switched on Saturday 24th November to make sure the town centre is at its festive best.
Under the glow of one of the town’s three 36ft Christmas Trees, the Blackburn Christmas Market will have a traditional Bavarian village feel with authentic German-style chalets brought in especially from Flensborg.
Festively dressed, up to 26 chalets of varying sizes will be clustered around a central Hexagonal Schwenker Grill and bar area.
Attractions including a vintage Helter Skelter and antique Chair o Planes swings will be dotted around the site creating an attractive winter wonderland.
The Market will be organized and managed on site by Retail Alternatives and will feature overnight security. The operators are seeking an eclectic mix of high quality food, drink, crafts and gifts from local and regional traders, supported by a number of national and international vendors and recruitment is well underway.
Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said:
This is great news for Blackburn’s festive season and is a really exciting event for the borough. German-style Christmas Markets have become a fantastic addition to many towns and cities and I I am delighted that Blackburn will now host one in Cathedral Square.
This is set to be a great addition to Blackburn town centre this Christmas and will give shoppers from all over something a little bit different to enjoy.”
The Christmas Market will form the centrepiece of Blackburn’s Festive Progamme 2018 and link with Blackburn markets offering a fantastic range of gifts and festive treats.
In addition, there will be a special programme of activities in Cathedral Square across the day and evening.
There are still opportunities for traders to get involved with stalls starting at £60 per day. Contact Andy Burnett at Retail Alternatives on 07454 123931 for further details.
