Families braved wind and rain to celebrate the opening of the revamped Green Lane Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

The fun day marked the official opening of the games area with free activities including

face painting, boxing and Commando Joes, penalty shoot-out, raffle, Blackburn Rovers mascot Rover the Dog and a variety of stalls.

The games area was officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, Councillor Jim Shorrock and Mrs Linda Mahon.

The MUGA, at Green Lane, Blackburn, has undergone major works following years of vandalism.

Improvements include new durable fencing and a new hard surface to replace the old synthetic carpet with appropriate line marking, to make sure that the facility is not easily vandalised. The renovations came through Section 106 funds of £45,000.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust will also be delivering structured activities for young people from the MUGA one night a week, with sessions due to start in April.

Councillor Julie Gunn, Mill Hill and Moorgate Ward Councillor, said:

The weather was against us but people came out and had a great time despite it. A lot of hard work has gone into renovating the games area and we hope it will be put it to really good use.”
