Water issues affecting our borough

Published Monday 15 August 2022 at 15:10

We understand that the situation regarding the water outage in some areas of our borough is deeply frustrating.
Some households have been without running water since Saturday, during an exceptionally hot weekend.
We would like reassure residents that we are working closely with United Utilities as the lead agency, as well as other partners within the local area.
We have worked with United Utilities to help identify vulnerable customers and as such, the original list of vulnerable customers has now been increased, meaning more vulnerable residents are being supported.
Vulnerable customers receive bottled water drop- offs from United Utilities to their homes.
Over the weekend, we supported United Utilities in identifying and setting up three water distribution points.
Two of these have remained open to support customers in the Blackburn area.
We would encourage any vulnerable customers who have not registered with United Utilities to do so by phoning: 0345 072 6093. This will ensure bottled water is dropped off at these people’s homes.
We understand that the work has been very complex due to the depth of the water main making it difficult to safely access and begin repairs and United Utilities staff have been working around the clock to get water supplies back on.
If any resident is without water and would like to use the shower facilities at two of our Council leisure centres (Blackburn and Witton), you are welcome to do so, during their usual opening hours.
Lastly, thank you for your patience during these extremely challenging times.
We will continue to update residents as soon as we receive updates from United Utilities and you can access all United Utilities updates here: https://bit.ly/3PpRPcU
