Blackburn with Darwen Council is supporting the Local Government Association’s national recruitment campaign, which highlights how council roles make a difference to local communities.

The Make A Difference recruitment campaign sets out to showcase the wide variety of rewarding and impactful careers available in local authorities and attract job seekers who may not have considered working in local government before.

Through the campaign, the LGA aims to inspire people to explore career opportunities that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of local residents.

Councillor Abi Brown, Chairman of the LGA’s Improvement and Innovation Board, said:

Hundreds of essential services are provided every day by councils and combined authorities to keep our communities running.

From caring for families and protecting children from harm, to ensuring your favourite takeaway or restaurant is safe and keeping our streets clean, there are a wide variety of challenging but equally rewarding roles on offer.

Working in local government offers unparalleled opportunities to make a real difference in people’s lives and there has never been a more important or valued time to join.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is supporting the Make A Difference campaign to boost its own recruitment among local communities.

Council Leader Councillor Phil Riley commented:

Local residents have a vested interest in our services and have first-hand understanding of their impact. We’re inviting them to consider joining our team in Blackburn with Darwen to use their insight and ambition for the borough to make a difference as a part of our workforce.

I feel proud of our workforce – their contribution to the Council being a real force for good cannot be underestimated.

Lauren North works for the Council as a Children’s Disabilities Social Worker and was recently named Social Worker of the Year at the National Children and Young People Awards. Lauren said:

Social work is a privilege. Through supporting families, I have the opportunity to see children develop in confidence and independence and empower parents, seeing them feeling more able to meet the needs of their children and fulfil their parenting role.

I am able to contribute to the team development, seeing practitioners become more skilled and confident and better able to support the children and families in our area.

Trainee Business Analyst Lloyd Foster works in the Council’s Digital Transformation team and won the Rising Star award at the Council’s annual staff awards. Lloyd commented:

I’ve worked for the Council for five years, starting as an apprentice. Over that time, I’ve had some great managers, coaching and leadership that have really helped me to develop.

There are lots of benefits and rewards to working for Blackburn with Darwen Council, ranging from flexible working to support your work-life balance, to a fantastic pension scheme.
