Pupils from St James Primary School, Lower Darwen enjoyed the opportunity to be the first children to walk and cycle on the new link road Issa Way before it is opened to traffic.
Haslingden Road widening and new link road is transforming active travel for the next generation.
BwD Council is committed building healthy streets where everyone feels safe and welcome. All road users should be able to make active travel – walking or cycling – their first choice for short journeys in our neighbourhoods. The changes will also help towards the Council’s Climate Emergency goal to be net carbon neutral by 2030.
BwD’s Executive Member for Growth and Development, Councillor Phil Riley, said:
“We are very positive about this scheme that we believe will prepare the borough for future growth, investment and employment across the board. This is a chance to transform these routes for the better for the benefit of residents and road users and will make traffic flow much better in these areas.”
There’s still a chance for you to contribute to the Council’s walking and cycling consultation– just drop a pin on the map in your neighbourhood and have your say: Consultation: Walking and cycling | Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council
