Volunteers Praised After Event Success

The Blackburn Business Improvement District (BID) has praised volunteers for their contribution to one of the town’s largest midsummer festivals.

Twenty-three volunteers were recruited to become hosts at Blackburn’s Countryside Comes to Town event, which attracted thousands of visitors to the town centre, as part of a partnership with Community CVS.

The pilot scheme was launched earlier this year and encouraged students, professionals and those looking for employment to volunteer as hosts to develop their customer service and event skills.

Helpers of all ages worked for a minimum of three hours on Saturday, 25^th June at the event, which included special appearances from Mr Bloom and Winner of the Great British Bake Off Nadiya Hussain.

The volunteers were congratulated for their contribution to the event which has since received rave reviews online.

Manager of the Blackburn BID, Harriet Roberts, said:

Everyone in the team exemplified what we need from Blackburn Hosts – positivity, passion and professionalism.”

We are grateful to the volunteers for pulling out the stops and putting in such a tremendous effort to put Blackburn on the map. We hope more hosts come forward for our future events as these large scale festivals are only achievable when people work in partnership together.”

Steve Foden, Team Leader at Community CVS, said:

The BID initiative is an excellent idea.
Going forward Community CVS in partnership with the BID will be looking to develop the role of Volunteer Hosts for the town. There will be a number of roles on offer and training to complement these, with the Boulevard Centre being the hub for all volunteer activity.”
