Volunteers out in force for community tidy-up

The Friends of Roe Lee Park group held a ‘Your Community, Your Call’ event in Roe Lee park recently, with help from local Councillors, council officers and the volunteer Police cadets.

The day went very well and lots of work was undertaken including ‘bramble bashing’, strimming, litter picking and leaf blowing.

Jason Walker, Chairman of the Friends of Roe Lee Park, said: “Blackburn with Darwen has been through a difficult time. It’s been tough and will continue to be tough. Government cuts mean that Council services have changed. They can no longer provide the level of services we were used to. But, thanks to Blackburn with Darwen’s  Your Call initiative it’s far from doom and gloom. It gives groups opportunities to make a real difference in their community”.

As well as the Your Call initiative, ward-solution-meetings have been set up across the borough to give residents the chance to flag up issues and see what the community, the Council and its partners can do together to solve them.
