Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council leaders have thanked volunteers for their support in making a difference to the lives of others.

As Volunteers Week came to an end, over 130 volunteers joined together to celebrate at King George’s Hall.

The council hosted the event on June 7 to say thank you to people who dedicate their time to volunteering.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Phil Riley, Executive Member for Public Health, Prevention and  Wellbeing, Cllr Damian Talbot alongside The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Parwaiz Akhtar were at the celebration and extended their personal thanks to the volunteers.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has over 2,000 volunteers that support the delivery of services every day, with volunteers who support a wide range of services, from litter picking to helping out at community centres.

Council Leader, Phil Riley said:

The many volunteering groups play a vital part in making the Borough a place where everybody matters and no one is left behind.

Executive Member for Public Health, Prevention and Wellbeing, Cllr Damian Talbot, said:

We have so many fantastic and hard-working volunteers across our Borough, and this event was a really important opportunity to say thanks for all that work, and to recognise what a huge difference volunteers make. The commitment of residents in Blackburn with Darwen is outstanding.

Barry Henderson: Re:fresh Volunteer, said:

The celebration was an unconditionally uplifting experience.  I felt humbled talking with other volunteers and it was wonderful.
