The Hallé, with a reputation for artistic excellence, will bring a touch of Vienna’s New Year to King George’s Hall on Friday 12th January 2018.

Conductor, Stephen Bell (pictured), will lead the Hallé through a tribute to the legendary Vienna New Year’s Day Concert. Regarded as the most important classical concert worldwide, the Vienna New Year’s Concert is broadcast around the world to an estimated audience of 50 million people in 93 countries.

The Hallé will whirl the audience through romantic Viennese waltzes, thrilling polkas and stirring marches, with all the Strauss family favourites included. Combined with the enchanting talents of soprano, Jennifer France, singing a wonderful aria of classics from the period.

Jennifer France has made a name for herself in opera since winning the Song Prize in the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Awards in 2014.  A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, her impressive resume includes working with great directors such as Phyllida Lloyd, and starring as Ophelia in Glyndebourne’s tour of Brett Dean’s opera Hamlet.

The concert’s leader, Stephen Bell, has been hailed as one of the most gifted young British conductors. Working with the likes of Royal Philharmonic and BBC Philharmonic, his versatility and aptitude for communication with audience has earned him a place as one of Europe’s most in demand conductors.

Audiences can expect an outstanding performance, sure to whisk them away to the ultimate city of music, Vienna.

A pre-concert supper is also available.  Enjoy a two or three course meal in Blakey’s from 4.30pm on the evening of the concert. Reserve seats for your meal online when you book tickets or call 01254 582879 (Option 1). Meal reservations are required, and early booking is recommended.
