Come along to the Station to Station event for the Queen’s Birthday celebrations

Join in the Queen’s Birthday celebrations this weekend. Stations in East Lancashire will be hosting public events to celebrate the Queen’s 90^th Birthday along with a number of other stations across the UK.

On Saturday 11^th June  Blackburn station will host the Blackburn Peoples choir to perform to people arriving at the station foyer between 11am and 12 noon.

Stalls and information as well as light refreshments will also be available from 11am. Everybody is welcome to attend the free events.

A number of led walks and a led cycle ride have also been organised to arrive at Blackburn station in time for the entertainment and refreshments .

Low Mobility Walk

This is a gentle walk from Cherry Tree station to Mill Hill station starting at 9:30am. Walkers will be required to catch a train to Blackburn station from Mill Hill station at 10:28am and will return to Cherry Tree station on the 12:05 train from Blackburn.

Pleasington Station to Blackburn station via Pirates Way and Canal towpath walk                          

Starting at Pleasington Station 8:30am join the Young Weavers club for a walk to Blackburn station via the Pirates Way and the Leeds & Liverpool canal which celebrates its 200^th  birthday this year.

People can either start from Pleasington station  or join the walk at various points:

• St Francis School: 09:30
• Cherry Tree: 10:00
• Navigation Inn: 10:20
• Ewood Viaduct: 10:35
• Blackburn railway station: 11:00 to 11:15

Parks & a Funeral – an exploration of Blackburn’s parks and open spaces            

Meet at Blackburn train station:10:05am

The journey will start at Blackburn, taking you through areas such as Witton Country Park, Corporation Park and Roe Lee Park. It will end at Blackburn Train Station.

A bus trip to Griffin will be required as part of this walk so please bring a bus pass or change. Please also bring a packed lunch and liquid refreshment.

At Accrington station there will be an opportunity to visit the Teaching Bunker to learnmore about Community Rail Lancashires education programme. Refreshments and goodie bags will also be available between 9:30am and 12 noon.

Burnley

At Burnley Manchester Road Station music, refreshments, and goodie bags will be available between 11am and 12 noon.

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s, Executive Member for Regeneration said:

This is a good way to bring the community together by showing that you can easily travel around by using public transport, walking or cycling.

As well as commemorating the Queen’s 90^th birthday, we will be celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the completion of the Leeds to Liverpool canal – interestingly, the final section to be  completed was the one around Blackburn.

The events are free and open to everybody, I would also encourage families to come along and take part in the group activities.
