Sweet success for new Darwen Market trader

Sweet Vintage, Sweet Shop and Tea Rooms in Darwen Market Square is to welcome a new shop owner at a grand reopening on Saturday, October 5.

Plans are underway to redecorate the shop and tea room, plus there will be the new addition of gluten free options and an increase in food labelling.

Laura Jenkinson, from Darwen, saw that the business was up for sale and began to seriously consider the prospect. After spending 20 years building a career as a brand manager, she decided she wanted to spend more time around her children.

She said:

When the opportunity came my way, I was ready for a change. I had dreamt about doing this in 10 years but my children won’t need me as much then. So now seemed like a better time to do it.

Laura will be using her branding skills to increase the profile of Sweet Vintage and hopefully encourage some new customers to come and pay her a visit.

Cllr Phil Riley, Executive Member for Regeneration, said:

This is great news. It is good to see that people are choosing to support their local market, allowing businesses such as this to expand and thrive. I wish Laura all the best in her new venture.
