Two very worthwhile local community organisations have been nominated for this year’s Lloyds Bank Community award.
Both the ‘Residents of Sunnyhurst Association’ and the ‘Blackburn Food bank’ are in the running for a regional community award that will grant the most popular organisation an extra £3000 to their funds
Over the past few years Blackburn foodbank has provided packages and parcels of food to the most deserving in our community.
Operated by the Trussell trust, Blackburn food bank has been lauded by politicians, clergy and residents for the vital service it has provided to the Blackburn community during recent tough times.
Relying on donations to continue its vital work, the food bank will accept donations of food or cash at its Blackburn base for those that wish to donate or get involved with the project.

Based within Darwen, the ‘Residents of Sunnyhurst Association’ has been at the heart of community life within the town for over 10 years.
The group is run by number of committed volunteers that live within the Sunnyhurst area, who strive to organise events that promote good neighbourliness whilst also attempting to prevent common social ills. Working round the clock, the Sunnyhurst volunteers have and are helping prevent social isolation, loneliness within the elderly and more importantly fostering good old fashioned community spirit.
