Stay Well

This winter, simple actions can help us stay well.

The colder seasons are when viruses are passed on more easily, when we’re spending more time indoors together.

We can all help to keep rates of Covid and flu in Blackburn with Darwen under control by carrying on with the simple actions we’ve learnt over the last two years or so.

If you feel unwell, try to avoid close contact with others, particularly vulnerable people – older people or those with underlying heath conditions.

If you have symptoms of Covid or flu and a high temperature, please stay at home if you can. If that’s not possible, wear a face covering when you go out and try to avoid other people as much as you can.

It’s so simple, but keeping our hands clean is a good way to prevent passing on viruses like Covid and flu.

Wash your hands as soon as you can when you arrive home, and carry hand sanitiser in your bag or pocket to keep your hands clean while out about.

We know that Covid and flu are airborne viruses – this means that they are passed on through the air from an infected person’s coughs and sneezes.

If we keep indoor rooms and spaces well ventilated – by opening windows regularly to let in fresh air – it reduces the risk of viruses spreading from an infected person to others in the same room.

There may be times when it’s appropriate to wear a mask to protect others, for example when you’re around someone who’s vulnerable to winter viruses.

Some health settings, such as Royal Blackburn Hospital, have reintroduced rules around wearing face coverings.

Please consider carrying a face mask with you when you go out, so that you’re prepared.

Nobody else wants your germs. If you’ve got a cold, remember to take tissues out with you to catch your coughs and sneezes.

Then remember to put your tissues in a bin and wash your hands as soon as possible.

These are simple actions but they can be effective when we all take them to look after ourselves and others.

Stay Well this winter.
