Staff from Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Democratic Services will be undertaking a day-long fast on Monday, July 13 in support of Ramadan, and all their lunch money will be spent on supplies for the Blackburn Foodbank.

Taking part are Phil Llewellyn, Mary Parker, Sonya Palmer, Paul Conlon, Sean Gambles and Ben Greenwood from Democratic Services.

Phil said:

Anyone who would like to sponsor us by donating food to the Foodbank, or joining us in our fast, is very welcome to do so. We wanted to support our colleagues during Ramadan and this is a great cause as well and I hope we can make a difference.”

A collection for the foodbank will also be taking place at the Council Forum meeting this Thursday at Blackburn Town Hall.

Cllr Mohammed Khan, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:

This is a very generous gesture from our staff, and will help the Foodbank which does a huge amount to help people in need and their families in the borough. I hope people choose to get involved to make the biggest difference they can.”

The Foodbank is run by volunteers and provides parcels of ‘non-perishables’ – things like tinned vegetables, dried pasta and long-life milk – to those who need it the most.
