A sponsored fast and raffle during Ramadan by Council staff raised £204 for the Blackburn Foodbank.
The fast was undertaken by Democratic Services staff Phil Llewellyn, Ben Greenwood, Sonya Palmer, Paul Conlon, Sean Gambles and Mary Parker.
Council staff also helped by donating a collection of nearly 100 food items, including tins, packets of pasta and biscuits and long-life drinks for the Blackburn Food Bank.
Staff at the Foodbank are hoping for increased donations as families struggle to buy enough food during the summer holidays from school.
The collections and fund-raising were supported by Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of the Council, and the Mayor of Blackburn, Councillor Faryad Hussain, who presented the cheque to foodbank organiser Ros Duerden.
Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:
This was a wonderful effort from everybody involved and I am delighted that our generous staff donated food items and money to benefit people who use the foodbank. My sincere thanks to everyone who took part in the fast and to everyone who donated food or money.”
