Special guests dropped in to a Blackburn school to see work produced by children in a British values competition

Pupils at Audley Juniors had to come up with a quiz about Britain and the best ones were awarded with a commemoration coin each.

Questions from winning entries included “who is the Prime Minister?” and “how old is the Queen?”

Councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, and the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Faryad Hussain visited the school to present the coins.

The coins are special commemorative collector items that mark the Queen becoming Britain’s longest serving monarch.

The Council sent out 200 coins to schools, community centres, children’s centres and other community institutions.

Audley Juniors were so happy with their one they asked for some more to distribute as part of the competition.

Councillor Khan said: “I was delighted to help hand out the coins to children who did the best quizzes. The questions were excellent and showed the children have a lot of knowledge about this country and its institutions.

“Blackburn with Darwen is a borough rich in diversity with a strong feeling of community togetherness. A lot of that community togetherness is fostered by the work schools like Audley do every day.”

Head teacher Susan Aldred commented, “The children have thoroughly enjoyed searching on the internet and visiting the library to find suitable and challenging questions about Britain. This has given them a greater awareness of the country they live in, as well as the customs and culture.”
