Things are looking up for Darwen Town Centre with the reopening of more retail across the town following the ending of the second national lockdown. This is a perfect time to support your local high street by shopping local this Christmas.
Local resident Mrs Ann Trobe, has done just that. She made a purchase at By Erin on Bridge Street Darwen and was given an entry form to the Shop Darwen prize draw for November. The draw was made on Wednesday 2nd December and Mrs Trobe was delighted to get the call to say that she had won £50 of vouchers to spend at any of the Shop Darwen businesses.
Mrs Trobe said:
I was shocked when I got the phone call to say that I had won £50 of Shop Darwen vouchers. It is good timing just before Christmas, I will be spending them at Darwen Furniture, By Erin and Belgrave Boutique…maybe I will treat my daughter Meg to something nice.”
She went on to say;
I am a proud supporter of shopping local.”
The Shop Darwen scheme, run by Blackburn with Darwen Council, is also pleased to announce that Darwen Town Council has kindly supported the Shop Darwen Scheme. Many households in Darwen will have received a Shop Darwen Christmas leaflet; this and other additional Christmas promotion has been possibly by the new partnership. More entry forms for the prize draw have been produced, as the scheme has been extremely well received by customers with around 2000 people entering in the first two months.
Lillian Salton, Mayor of Darwen, said:
Darwen Town Council are pleased to be supporting the Shop Darwen Scheme that is encouraging people to shop at our wonderful independent businesses. At this time, more than ever, it is important for people to know the difference they can make to their local town by shopping locally.”
The Shop Darwen prize draw continues in December and the winner will be announced early in the New Year! Get shopping and don’t forget to post your entry forms in the post box in Darwen Market.
We would encourage any independent Darwen business who hasn’t become involved yet, to join. It doesn’t cost anything, you would have to give out entry forms to customers, but then the winners may spend their vouchers at your shop!
If you want to be part of the scheme, please email: info@darwenmarket.com
Sadly, there are still some businesses in the hospitality and leisure sector that are unable to open in Darwen. Please find ways to support these businesses too. Why not get an afternoon tea, sweet treats, delicatessen delights or a Christmassy hamper delivered to your door. Alternatively, you could look to buy gift vouchers for when they are able to open their doors again.
You can make a difference to your town by shopping local this Christmas.
