Selfie drive raises awareness of live-saving equipment

Blackburn with Darwen residents are being encouraged to ‘snap a selfie’ to raise awareness of life-saving heart equipment.

The ‘Shocktober’ campaign encourages people to take a picture with one of the automatic defibrillators installed outside Blackburn and Darwen Town Halls, Blackburn Market and other locations across the borough including children’s centres and leisure centres.

Snap a selfie and tweet it with the hashtag #findthedefib; post it on Facebook or email to nwas.enquiries@nwas.nhs.uk

Automatic defibrillators have been installed as part of a wider programme of health and wellbeing improvement. They have been funded through Blackburn with Darwen Council’s public health budget and the project is supported by Heart Town in association with the British Heart Foundation.

The defibrillators can be used safely and effectively without previous training and their use is not restricted to trained rescuers. It is a stark reality that anybody who suffers cardiac arrest will die within just a few minutes unless rapid action, including CPR and defibrillation, is taken immediately.
