Please be aware that some residents in Blackburn received phone calls late last night claiming to be from the Council offering to install security cameras for £300.
The scammers claimed there was due to be an increase in Police activity in the area due to an alleged crime and gas leaks, working to make residents feel vulnerable enough to pay for the cameras.
As a Council we wouldn’t ever do this, so if someone phones you for this purpose, please do not give them your details.
If you’re asked to do something with your own money, especially out of the blue, or if it feels at all odd – hang up the phone.
The Council’s Community Safety team are working with the local neighbourhood policing team to issue advice to residents and get messaging out into communities as we don’t want anyone to fall victim to these ruthless scammers.
