Saluting the Armed Forces from home

This year, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council will celebrate Armed Forces Day remotely.

The worldwide pandemic means that the usual ceremonies outside Blackburn and Darwen town halls will not be going ahead. However, the flags will still be raised to support the annual national campaign.

Armed Forces Day gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present.

Mayor Iftakhar Hussain said:

I am proud that Blackburn with Darwen is one of 450 councils who will be raising the flag as part of the celebrations to the honour of British armed forces past, present and future.

It is important to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:

We are living in very unusual times at the moment and there are of course many serious issues the country is currently facing, but our dedicated men and women in the Armed Forces continue to serve our country and work hard every day to help keep us safe.

I would encourage people to take the time to reflect on this and show their support for the extraordinary sacrifices made by people who serve, past and present, as well as their families and veterans.
