Blackburn Rovers Football Club is supporting the local community this Christmas with a festive fundraising appeal.
Last year, Rovers raised over £16,000 during the festive period, which helped 600 households and over 900 local children have food on their table on Christmas Day as part of a Christmas food box appeal.
With families across the borough still struggling as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Rovers have once again teamed up with Sodexo, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, Blackburn with Darwen Council and the Cardboard Box Company to offer help and support to those most in need.
Players and staff from the club will make a salary sacrifice to raise vital funds towards the Christmas food box campaign and Rovers fans can also show their support by donating anything they can to our JustGiving page here.
The fundraising appeal aims to help the hundreds of households that could be without food this Christmas and to support other important projects in the local area over the coming weeks and months.
The food parcels, which will be packed with all the traditional trimmings and some tasty treats, to make sure families enjoy a substantial two-course meal this Christmas, will be prepared at Ewood Park in the build-up to the big day.
Blackburn Rovers Director Mike Cheston said:
We look forward to working again with our partners on this initiative, in these challenging times, to achieve a positive impact in the community over the festive period.”
Councillor Julie Gunn, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:
Blackburn Rovers is at the heart of our Borough and it is wonderful to see them support our families in this way again this Christmas.
I am particularly grateful for their support of our Care Leavers and know that this will make such a difference to them as they go through this especially challenging time of year. We are so lucky in Blackburn with Darwen to work with so many caring partners. Come on Rovers!”
Gary Robinson, CEO of Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, said:
As Rovers’ official charity, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the football club again on this worthwhile Christmas initiative.
We’re proud to be spreading a little bit of festive spirit and cheer to those that may find themselves in difficult circumstances at this time of year. We hope that the food box initiative will positively impact the local community and we’d like to wish them all a very merry and happy Christmas.”
Jason Harvey, Catering Services Director at Sodexo, said:
We’re so proud at Sodexo to be supporting Blackburn Rovers with this fantastic Christmas initiative.
We hope to build on the success of last year in a continued effort to support the local community and ensure everyone has a Merry Christmas.”
