Roadworks put on hold for festive period

Blackburn with Darwen Council has announced an embargo on road works during the remainder of December.

Throughout the run up to Christmas there will be no new road works undertaken and those that are currently in existence will be limited to work that doesn’t obstruct the carriageway.

The embargo will continue until January 4 next year to allow shoppers to easily access the town centres.

The only exception will be King Street which will be closed overnight from 9pm until 5am for the next twelve days to allow road resurfacing to take place in that area.

Motorists are reminded that parking is free after 3pm in Council carparks during the week and free all day at the weekend.

The majority of car parking is free in Darwen town centre at all times of the day.

Executive member for Regeneration, Councillor Phil Riley, said:

We recognise that Christmas is one of the busiest times for traders of all sizes so it is important we make it as easy as possible for people to access the town centres.
