This week the installation of one piece speed cushions at Lammack Road was completed, just one of a number of minor road safety schemes being rolled out across the borough this spring.
To combat anti-social driving behaviour in the area, the innovative speed cushions have been installed in conjunction with Miller Homes who are currently undertaking a new development at the Old Blackburnians site.
The anti-social behaviour has resulted in multiple accidents on this stretch of road in the last 12 months causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to residents’ homes.
Executive Member for Growth and Development, Cllr Phil Riley said: “My thanks to the Council’s Network team who delivered this road safety installation, the quality of the work speaks for itself. The anti-social driving behaviour was the cause of so much upset and worry for residents. This scheme will go a long way to providing them with reassurance their concerns have been heard, and preventative measures put in place to tackle the issue.”
The single-piece speed cushions are an innovative investment for the borough, not only because they are so quick to install but they are made from recycled car tyre rubber which helps BwD towards its carbon neutral targets.
