Road safety crackdown in October

Careless drivers and inappropriate parking are being targeted in a new campaign in Blackburn and Darwen

A partnership between Lancashire Police and Blackburn with Darwen Parking Services, will see mobile patrols observing traffic to curb irresponsible driving and irresponsible parking that can put other road users and pedestrians at risk.

The operations will be taking place across the borough throughout October to crackdown on speeding, bad driving practices and parking contraventions

Operations have been planned in response to concerns and complaints from residents and other road users.

Councillor Jim Smith, Executive Member for Environment said:

We have had reports that a minority of people are making the roads unsafe for others in our towns thanks to risky and unsafe driving and parking practices.

This can cause accidents and make driving very unpleasant and dangerous for other road users. I want to warn people that we will be keeping a very careful eye on any thoughtless or risky driving and we will take serious action.”

Blackburn Neighbourhood Team Sgt Jon Cisco said:

The vast majority of drivers are considerate and safe but there are a small minority whose bad practices, speeding and inconsiderate parking cause concern to others and it is on those concerns that we are taking this action with our partners.”
