People enjoying Blackburn’s love affair with running are already signing up for the town’s biggest annual road race. More than 100 entries have been registered.

Blackburn Road Runners, who celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2016, are busy preparing for their Winter Warmer event on Sunday, February 7th at Blackburn with Darwen Council run Witton Park starting at 11am.

The main race, has now been running for over 15 years, is a 10k route taking in some of the town’s most picturesque scenery and ends at the new athletics arena.  There is also a 2k race for children.

Club chairman Sue Wolstenholme said:

It really feels like everybody in Blackburn is running at the moment. We filled the Winter Warmer last year with runners of all abilities.

It’s a great event, the Blackburn Road Runners marshals are gaining a well-deserved reputation for their enthusiasm, it’s also cheap to enter and everybody gets a goody bag. We’ve listened to feedback and made a few tweaks this year for the start.”

Race pacers are available for anybody looking for a personal best time. The race is  measured by professionals and chipped so times are accurate.

Last year the mens winner was Ben Fish of Blackburn Harriers with a time of 33:08 and ladies winner Philipa Walsh in 41:56 .  A small number of race places are being reserved for elite runners to ensure there is a good balance of abilities.

The race is sponsored by Sweatshop, IB Costings, JLR Engineering, Tucosys, Bridgfords Estate Agents, Regency Fitness, Forest UK, DHJ Weisters and MGS Technical Plastics.
