Blackburn with Darwen’s Trading Standards is warning people not to hand over money to a company offering Council Tax rebates.

People who have been contacted by a company called Harper Goldman (HG). HG cold call and try to make appointments to carry out council tax rebate work.

In one case the representative has suggested they are working alongside the council/councils, and that the resident is entitled to £1,600 rebate.

They have said their charge is £160.

One resident who reported the phone call to Trading Standards also phoned the Valuation Office in Preston, and found out that her council tax band is correct. This is likely to be all HG would have done for £160. The Valuation Office are aware of HG.

Blackburn with Darwen Council have no connection to HG, and residents are advised not to make appointments or pass on any details to the company.
