Blackburn with Darwen resident Peter Elliott, completed the annual highways survey and has won the Council prize draw for a £200 Ewood Bikes voucher.
Cycling fan Peter, lives in the Shadsworth area. A software developer, currently working from home due to coronavirus restrictions, Peter usually commutes to Clayton-le-Moors via car or bike depending on the weather.
Peter said: “I tend to cycle at weekends for leisure. My favourite route is along the Weavers Wheel or the canal. I’m looking forward to using my voucher to upgrade my current bike and maybe get some new cycling gear. I’m also looking forward to trying out some of the Council’s new cycle routes that are being laid across the region to reduce congestion and help people be more active.”
“The surveys I completed (there are 7) focussed on highway maintenance, cycling/walking, public transport, road safety and congestion, and I think the Council are moving in the right direction to help cyclists in terms of safety and also reduce traffic congestion.”
The highways survey is an annual Department for Transport review, asking residents to share all the different ways they use the roads across the borough. Each survey takes a couple of minutes, and helps the Council to plan improvements for the year ahead.
Blackburn’s Cllr Zainab Rawat is keen for residents to share their voice and be more active:
“It is important residents share their experiences of the local roads so we are aware of any concerns and can use the feedback accordingly. Whether you take a short walk every day or are a keen commuter cyclist, being active helps boost your immune system which helps fight off lots of diseases, including Covid-19.”
You can share your views and complete the surveys until January 2021.
