After holding a successful event in 2019, RunThrough are excited to be bringing the Blackburn 10k back.
It will take place at the home of Blackburn Rovers Football Club, Ewood Park, on Sunday 12 December at 9.30am, with a children’s race also on the same day.
Due to Covid-19 last year’s run along with many across the country were postponed.
The pandemic saw a rise in many people starting running for the first time or finding a love for the sport again, so this is the perfect opportunity to join hundreds of other runners for a 10k race on your doorstep. You will get your own unique specific time when you finish.
Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Wellbeing, Cllr Damian Talbot said:
I’m delighted to see this fantastic event return. After a very difficult year, events like this one are something to look forward to, signs of life returning to some kind of normal, as well as an opportunity for residents to reclaim their fitness after the pandemic. It’s also a chance to raise money for a local charity or community organisation. I look forward to seeing runners from across the borough crossing the finish line in December.
The 10k race starts and finishes inside Blackburn Rovers Football Club and the route includes Blackburn town centre taking in local landmarks.
Matt Wood, Director at RunThrough said:
We are so thankful to Blackburn Rovers, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council along with all the local running clubs for their continued support of this event. RunThrough organises 200 events every year, all around the UK, at some of the UK’s most iconic tourist attractions. However as I am personally from Blackburn, a lifelong Blackburn Rovers fan, this event has that extra bit of meaning for me. Bringing the event to align with BRFC’s Christmas festivities is going to make the event extra special this year too!
BwD Running Mayor Andy Gardner added
This is a great event and one of my favourites in the BwD running calendar. The route is a fast one with plenty to see as you pass local landmarks and it’s fantastic when the crowds are cheering you on. If this is your first 10k and you need any tips get in touch on Twitter @AndyJGard
Your entry will include – chip timed results, a unique themed medal, free official event photos, fruit, flapjacks, water and more goodies.
You can sign up to this timed 10k race now
Charity places are also available for anyone wanting to run for a charity if their choice. Funding will also go back to the Rovers Community Trust to support the amazing work they do with young people right across the area.
Community groups are also encouraged to take part. Members of the Blackburn Road Runners Club have already promised to be out in force. They are holding their annual 10k event, the Winter Warmer, on February 6 2022.
