Refuse and recycling collections affected today by weather

Today’s refuse and recycling collections in Blackburn and Darwen are likely to be affected by the weather.

Staff are out collecting the waste and recycling but it is highly likely that given the blizzard conditions, residents vehicles left at road and back street junctions because of the weather, as well as the gradients of some of the areas we collect from today, some properties will be missed.

Collection teams, where it is safe to do so, will leave a card and also spare bags at properties that they are unable to get the vehicle to.

Bulky collections commenced today, but has now been suspended, due to the condition of some of the back streets. About 16 collections will not be undertaken today and will hopefully will be collected tomorrow, weather permitting.

Litterbins have been emptied on the main roads and roads that have been gritted, but litterbins off gritted roads are unlikely to be emptied today.

At this time, we intend still to operate the caged waste collection services this Saturday at:-

9am – 10.30am  :   Bunkers Hill Close

11.00 – 12.30pm  :   Hurstwood Avenue/Railton Avenue

1.30 – 3.00pm  :      Dickinson Close

Tomorrow was due to be the first collection of the garden waste brown bins for some residents this year, with collections due in some areas of Darwen, Edgworth, Tockholes, Chapeltown. Unfortunately due to the weather  these collections have been cancelled, taking into consideration the weather and road conditions.

As a result of these circumstances, we will add another collection to the end of the service in November.

Thank you for bearing with us during this time. We will provide further updates to keep you informed.
