Newly appointed Council leader, Councillor Mohammed Khan, has toured a newly refurbished day care centre.
Hopwood court, which was officially reopened at a ceremony last week by the Deputy Mayor Councillor Hussain Akhtar and the Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care Councillor Mustafa Desai, welcomed Councillor Khan who was impressed by the new facilities.
Councillor Khan, who previously held the office of Executive Member for Health and adult social care, oversaw the original proposals that would see the centre, which is now jointly run by Age UK and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, provide not only elderly day care but also act a community hub for all residents to use.
Councillor Khan said:
Ensuring we are able to provide for all residents is a key Council priority, the reopening of Hopwood court as a community facility and a centre for the elderly and vulnerable ensures that our communities prosper together rather than in isolation. The facility is great and I know the centre will continue to go from strength to strength.
