Blackburn with Darwen councillors and staff observed the national minute silence this morning for the victims of the terror incident in a Reading park on Saturday evening.

Council Leader, Councillor Mohammed Khan, the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Iftakhar Hussain and Chief Executive, Denise Park have released this joint statement:

We were shocked to hear the news on Saturday evening that what should have been a peaceful summer evening in a park in Reading turned to tragedy.

There is no place in civilised society for such mindless acts of violence. We stand with the people of Reading to reject all acts of hatred.

Across our own community, we are united in our sorrow and our sympathy for the three people who have lost their lives and those in hospital with serious injuries.

We send our condolences to the families and friends of the victims and hold them in our thoughts.
