The multimillion pound scheme is being developed by national social care charity Community Integrated Care in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council and other local partners
The care service is intended to be a specialist site for short term, rehabilitation stays, with some specialist dementia services and will be built on the former Council run Greenways site.
Greenways is currently being demolished in preparation for the new care home.
Planning permission is being sought soon and a consultation with local residents and potential users of the service will begin in the autumn.
Community Integrated Care are also developing a new care home on the old Infirmary site in Ewood.
The cutting-edge three storey service will be named ‘EachStep Blackburn’. It will include a 64 bedded care home that will provide respite support, residential care and nursing care. There are also plans for the service to deliver outreach services in the local community, assisting people to live independently in their own homes for longer.
As well as providing an extensive range of specialist facilities for the people it will support, the service will also offer several amenities for the local community to enjoy and utilise – including a café, landscaped gardens and meeting rooms.
Councillor Mustafa Desai, Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “These plans are a very early stage but this is exciting news.
“It is great to see such investment being brought into the borough and jobs it could potentially create. This is exactly the type of facility we need. Our older people deserve the highest quality services and when built, this care service will offer that.”
Cath Murray-Howard, Deputy Chief Executive, says: “Community Integrated Care is excited to be working in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council and CCG to introduce new care provision in Darwen, which will improve the lives of local older people. We are looking forward to working with the Council, CCG and members of the community to develop plans for this exciting service.
This new service will complement EachStep Blackburn, our upcoming state-of-the-art dementia care home, which will open in summer 2015. We believe that together these services will make a great impact on the local community.”
