Blackburn with Darwen has been awarded £50,000 as a part of a pilot project to help keep more people warm and well in their homes.

The Government funding will allow the Council to continue to provide vital support to residents and see around 90 households benefit from free installation of energy efficiency measures.

The announcement comes on the back of recent work by the Council’s DASH (Decent and Safe Homes) team in Royal Blackburn Hospital.

DASH teams have been visiting patients who may benefit from the range of services they provide, including a free handyman service, falls prevention service as well as those who need help to keep their homes warm and energy bills down.

The £50,000 funding will help towards the cost of installing proper insulation in people’s homes and – for some residents – assistance with new energy-efficient boilers.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said:

DASH is an incredibly important year round service for many people in the borough. I’m delighted we have access to this funding to help us to make sure the residents we have identified via the hospital have access to measures that will help make their homes more energy efficient, as well as keeping them warm and helping to keep energy bills down.
