Leaders at Blackburn with Darwen Council hosted a visit from Qamar-ul-Islam Raja, a former member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in Pakistan.
Representing the Pakistani government, Qamar-ul-Islam Raja spent time in Blackburn on Wednesday, 9 April, as part of his 10-day visit to the UK. During his visit Mr Raja discussed our democratic process and history.
The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Brian Taylor, welcomed the Minister to Blackburn Town Hall.
Coun Quesir Mahmood, Deputy Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, commented:
Mr Raja was really keen to learn about our democratic processes and, of course, we made sure that he experienced the authentic Pakistani cuisine we have here.
Denise Park, the Council’s Chief Executive, added:
We are always keen to share our expertise and experiences with international visitors.
Qamar-ul-Islam Raja said:
I’m very grateful for the hospitality shown to me by Blackburn. I am a lot clearer now about how local government works here. The rich history of Blackburn is very impressive.
During his 10-day UK visit, Mr Raja also visited Rochdale and Glasgow.
